Let’s Find Out What’s Causing Your Back Pain

Back pain can show up as an ache, stiffness, or a sharp pain that makes everyday movement difficult. There isn’t one treatment that fits everyone. We start by learning when your pain began, what makes it worse, and what you want to get back to doing. Then our team can explain your options and help you decide on the next step.

Back Pain Frequently Asked Questions

IS BACK PAIN THE SAME AS SCIATICA?

No. Back pain describes pain in your back. Sciatica refers to nerve symptoms that often travel through the buttock and down a leg. Those symptoms may include burning pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness. You can have back pain without sciatica, and you can have sciatica with little or no back pain. We evaluate your symptoms to understand what may be causing them.

WHAT CAN CAUSE BACK PAIN?

Back pain can start after a fall, an injury, or lifting something heavy. It can also develop gradually, without one clear moment when it began. Muscles, joints, discs, nerves, and other health conditions may play a role. An exam helps us learn more about your pain before recommending care.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY BACK PAIN IS SERIOUS?

If your pain is getting worse, isn’t improving, or is keeping you from your normal activities, it’s time to have it checked. Seek prompt medical attention if back pain follows a fall or injury, or comes with fever, trouble urinating, or new leg weakness or numbness.
